Ipswich is one of Queensland's oldest cities and one of its fastest growing at the same time. Century-old workers' cottages around the centre sit half an hour from brand new estates at Springfield and Ripley, and the two halves need very different things from a support worker.
The older housing means narrow hallways, timber steps and bathrooms that were never designed for a walking frame. Out in the growth suburbs the issue is distance instead: the shops, the specialists and the day programs are all a drive away, so transport support does a lot of the heavy lifting.
Ipswich is spread out, so we build fewer, longer shifts rather than short daily visits once you get past Redbank Plains. Trips into the Brisbane hospitals are planned around the actual travel time, not the appointment slot, so nobody is rushing a shower to make a train.

It is usually the opposite. A worker driving out from Brisbane costs travel time and arrives less reliably. Support staffed from Ipswich itself is both steadier and easier to keep going through a school holiday or a heatwave.
